Jetbook
Ectaco Inc. manufactures the Jetbook and today the company boasts that these e-readers were the ones that introduced the concept to most of the world. Jetbook readers have a TFT LCD screen that does not blackout each time you are moving to a new page. These devices make reading comfortable and they support many languages. Consumers do appreciate the lower cost of this product, $289.99-$299.
Customers also are appreciative of the fact that the housing comes in color options other than just black or white. A major drawback is that there are few formats that Jetbook supports. In fact, it presently has just 3 formats and this severely decreases the number of ebooks that can be downloaded.
Sony PRS 700
Sony is a well-respected brand name and this digital Ebook reader is certainly garnering some high marks from consumers. There is an easy to operate 6 inch, touch screen, which eliminates any need for a keyboard. The result is a streamlined product that looks and feels extremely high tech. This e-reader even has LED backlighting so owners can keep up with their reading even in places where the overhead lights are less than optimal. When compared to the Amazon Kindle, the memory in the Sony PRS 700 is lacking. COOL- ER
If you are searching for a low cost Ebook reader you do not have to look far to see the value in the $249 Classic COOL- ER. This is a fun and lightweight model that comes packaged with downloads of books. It works with any MP3 players and there are a variety of cool colors choices to select from. The drawbacks are with apparent however. The response time for this device is fairly slow and it does not support many formats. Navigating the menu can also be somewhat troublesome. If all you need is something that lets you take your books, newspapers and magazines along with you when you are on the go, then the COOL-ER could be a safe bet.
Kindle DX – bestselling ebook
No other e-book reader has ever been launched with the massive amount of publicity and hype that surrounded the Amazon Kindle DX. This product has a large, easy to read screen that is almost 10 inches in size. You can even adjust the number of words in the lines to your own personal preference. This makes reading much more realistic and comfortable. It really does seem as though you are holding a book in your hands, as opposed to a reading device.
The DX also provides users with instant downloading for printed materials. The basic setup and navigation are pretty simple to understand and use. When you open the package and remove the Kindle DX e-reader, it just requires a couple of steps before it is ready to be used. Amazon has even provided a nice little assortment of screen savers that feature some well-known literary figures. You can save or highlight passages and lines in the printed material you are reading with the DX. This is a very convenient and time saving feature. The biggest drawback for this e-reader is the relatively high cost for the device, but there are enough extra features to still make it a great buy even at $489.

Some of the info is so not up to date. It’s fascinating, how fast things change. the article was written like half a year ago, and what we have now, for example, is jetBook dropping its price down to USD 149.95 and supports tons of formats. Funny.
I agree with Markus-the Ectaco is WAY less expensive now-I am waiting for the two new Asus readers to come out this year…I think I may be purchasing one of the two as long as the price is reasonable, which I heard will be. Things are ever-evolving and it’s fun keeping an eye on what’s new!
