Using WordPress Properly

by admin on June 12, 2009

Are you ready to start a website? Chances are that you have herd about it as a blogging platform only, but you can put it to several uses, other than just for blogs. You could create a website or CMS (Content Management System) using WordPress and its many benefits are as follows:

Installing WordPress is not a problem if you have fantastico in your domain control panel, after which your website can be ready in a jiffy. In case fantastico is not available you have to do this manually through it is completely uncomplicated if you follow the recommended directions. If you are not at ease with any of the options, then delegate the job to someone else. It won’t be pricey to do this as it doesn’t take a long time for someone who knows what their doing.

Refurbishing a website designed by someone else can be painstaking and costly for the owner as you have to pay the designer, wait for his action and finally get the job done. You would not have any problem if you use a system like WordPress which is not only simple to learn but easy to use also. You can be updating your own site in no time and changes are instant – you don’t have to wait for a designer to have time to do the edits for you!

Another plus point about using WordPress is that you can without any hassle outsource all website upgrades and changes. All you need is a virtual assistant with a separate username and password which she uses to log on and work on your site. You can cease to feel stressed whether your latest version of the site is up on the net or whether you are overwriting work completed by some other person.

One great advantage of WordPress is the use of Categories and Archives which are inherent to the program.

Websites updated regularly are hits with search engines. Because of the nature of blogs and WordPress you’ll likely be updating very frequently and this is good news for your search engine rankings. You site picks up as soon as the blog search engines start to hook you.

Using WordPress to make a site entitles you to get a RSS Feed as part of the deal. Now visitors to your site can subscribe to the RSS feed and get to know about all new inputs you add to your site. This way your site can really be attractive as more and more people are drawn towards it for more information. The above should trigger some ideas in your head on how a WordPress-created website is not only simple but how it can generate enormous traffic.

Using WordPress is a good thing; using WordPress with sloppy code and launching such a presitgious website as a “Beta” is another. Given the reported 6 figure budget there is no excuse for this. The Government has very comprehensive guidelines on standards on its own websites. Have the developers not read them? See:

If you are using Wordpress.com to host your site for free…you can't do that without paying. Look in their help section for domain mapping and I believe there is a $10 fee.

This is an important plugin for the Bangalee bloggers who are using wordpress as their blogging platform. I've already test it on my site, it works perfectly. I hope Hasin will take initiative to include more codes in this plugin so that calendar, archieve, in fact, any dates and numbers in wordpress can also been shown in Bangla. Congrats Hasin!!

The 'theme' is rather specific to our church just at the moment but I have just launched the St John's Chuch, Owlerton website using Wordpress.

There are a lot of good Wordpress church sites our there aren't there?! For some crazy reason when I thought I of using Wordpress for a church site I thought I was being quite original and a little bit crazy… it appears I was wrong on at least one of those… Thanks for the links.

Fuck Muhammed and Islam. People should start a website about their bullshit prophet WITH cartoons and WITH facts about the atrocities about Islam. Fuck any sensitivity to Islam in light of the murder, rape, and genocide they stand for.

David this is a fabulous introduction to using WordPress. I am teaching several classes on using Social Media and often refer my students to You Tube for training. I've gotten very good feedback from my students about suing this tutorial. Thank you so much for putting this together.

Totally agree. If they turn it into a paying website after all their privacy and security violations, then only suckers, salespeople, and politicians (notice how a lot of them are getting into facebook now? Huhhh that's not a good sign is it, lol) will pay for that crap.

They might go from 400 milllion down to 40,000 in record time. But at $3 per sucker that's still 120K a year the greedy zuckerberg will take to the bank. Think I'll start a website biz and call it……dontgetzuckered.com :)

I was disappointed. Barnes & Noble didn't have it. They usually have that one and 3D World but all they had this time was 3D World.

Meanwhile, they had a really thick magazine for beginners on using WordPress. They had huge (had to be at least 600 pages) books on using WordPress. Why? How friggin' hard is it to make a blog on WordPress? You open an account, choose a theme and make your first post. It's not rocket science.
