How to Learn a Foreign Language

by admin on June 8, 2009

Important guidelines: It is not proper to postpone any foreign language course as it is a completely new kind of course. When you defer a foreign language course, it is as good as a failure and you must ensure that you spend a minimum of 3 hours weekly and 15 minutes on a daily basis for this. Use all the time you have in your hands to pursue the language but never spend more than 45 minutes per session.

Partition your study into many small sessions. It is imperative that you attend classes regularly, if you are sincere about your intentions of learning the language and pass the course. Run through your past learning on a regular basis as this is going to improve your learning for example check out your stock of vocabulary. Take these tips which are aimed to make the learning of the foreign language easier and faster.

Comprehending the printed materials: Concentrate on reading for comprehension without looking up every unfamiliar word. Everyday stay in touch with the language and glance through the chapters of the text book.

Here are some great courses to help you start with:

learn Spanish,   learn German,   learn Chinese,   learn French and  learn Italian.

Start talking: Making mistakes is natural so listen to others in the class and start to speak. You can have a good practice of the foreign language if you speak out loudly to yourself, to others in the same class or with your dog or cat at home.

Putting it down on paper: Practice your writing skills every day until they become more natural. Write down a passage of the language as part of a dictation from a friend and then correct your own writing.

Miscellany: Study the foreign language with a positive frame of mind, have pre-set objectives and goals. Know what you are going to get from your studies and how to get them.

If you need help get it and do not be afraid to ask questions or ask for help for fear of sounding stupid, or being embarrassed.

  1. Get audio tapes of the language and listen to them or make you own tapes and listened to yourself in order to perfect your pronunciation.
  2. To excel in pronunciation, listen to audio tape of others made with the language or record something yourself and listen to them.
  3. Different colored flash cards can be used for building vocabulary like one set of colors for the genders and another set of colors for the different grammars like noun, verb and adjective.
  4. Practicing the learning in groups is helpful in the sense that you develop friendship with your classmates who can also offer assistance in the process of learning.

What other country has “For (native language), press 1, for (some other language) press 2″ set-ups in different organizations and companies?

Great, guess we can do away with all the English signs, recordings, etc. over here in Switzerland. After all, we've only got 1% of the population with English as a first language. LEARN GERMAN, DAMNIT!

And really “what other country” is “pretty much every country where English is not the native language, and even some where it is”.

Hi there. You have a few options here, the best ones would probably be:

Grâce à Alizée, je voudrais apprendre le français/j’ai maintenant envie d’apprendre le français.
= thanks to Alizee, I would like to learn French/ I now want to learn French.

A cause d’Alizée, je voudrais apprendre le français/ maintenant j’ai envie d’apprendre le français.
= because of Alizee, I would like to learn French/ I now want to learn French.

"Parce que" and "car" don't really work with this phrase. Good luck =)

I think they should change all signs in Germany from German to Italian since most Germans should learn Italian anyway. It will help them become more cultured and improve thier image.
