Choose the right domain name for your web site!

June 28th, 2008 · No Comments

Would a novel work without a good cover? Similarly, a website without a good domain name is worthless. Visitors won’t be compelled to check the website if the domain name has no relevance to the website. If you think that putting all your innovativeness into the domain name will make it better, you are mistaken. What is the justification for this? The answer lies in the keyword. If your domain name is innovative but not search engine optimized with keywords, the search engines will not be able to index it. In other words, your domain name must be appealing as well as crafted for the search engines. In this article you will learn how to do both things.

You will have to start by searching a keyword that is good for the search engines and also can be a part of your domain name. A tool known as a keyword analyzer can help you in this. One place to get them is through the search engines. Think of some keyword that summarizes your website in short and enter it into this tool. You will get many options from the analyzer for the keyword you have used. If there are some keywords that better describe your website from among these, choose them. A rule of search engine optimization is to use low competition keywords because they increase your chances of getting found. With this done, you can now begin hunting for your perfect domain name.

The company that provides domain names will let you know if a particular domain name is available. If not obtainable, you will at least get some recommendations. Put in your keyword first – this way you can better use this tool. You will get other recommendations if this particular keyword is not available to use as the domain name. Think favorably about the domain names that have the keyword and end with .com. If this is not available, be more ingenious. By putting in filler words in the domain name, you may be able to find an available option that still keeps your keyword.

Most people use ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘the’ for such filtering purposes in their domain names. These words are not considered by the search engines. So, they will index your site and you will have a very appealing domain name too. This is achievable even if you use some numbers like 45 or anything you prefer at the end of the phrase. If you get everything but the .com, this is what you must do.

With a very popular keyword, it does not matter if your extension is .com or something else. Some such popular examples are .org, .net and even .biz. If you don’t see any difference that an international or local website will do for you, you can also select for a nation or state specific extension. As an example, think what would be better for you – to be number 4 in Britain’s Google or to be number 40 in American Google? It is simple enough to find a domain name that works on both the human as well as the search engine level.

Nine out of ten parts of the success of your domain name depends on the keyword analyzer. The remaining one part depends on your creativity. The last refuge in case nothing helps you get the kind of domain name you want is the extension.
